Mohican Trails Club Fire Tower Info

The historic Mohican Fire Tower. Built in 1934 the fire tower was used by forest officials as a lookout for wildfires. When wildfire detection turned to helicopters and electronic communications, the tower at Mohican became a viewing attraction for the public.

Between 1924 and 1978, the State of Ohio constructed and operated 45 forest fire lookout towers to watch over public lands that were newly planted with trees and areas where state foresters were encouraging a natural regeneration of woodlands.

Reopened on October 22nd, 2005 with the assistance of the ODNR Division of Forestry the Mohican Fire Tower is operated my the Mohican Trails Club.
